Free Flamenco Guitar Lesson 1: Basic Sitting Position

One of the most important things to learn as you begin your study of the Flamenco guitar is that a proper sitting position is important to stabilize your guitar. If its position is unstable, you will find yourself using too much energy trying to stabilize it with sheer muscle force, which will lead to tension and possible injuries.

Although there are many different sitting positions that have been used by Flamenco guitarists, you should choose one of these positions that your instructor demonstrates. Your teacher begins with the least common position, ending with the most common one. Try all of them, and select the one that makes you feel the most relaxed and balanced.

Having a relaxed position and a balanced posture is of utmost importance. Your guitar should feel quite stable, but you should not feel even the slightest tension to achieve that stability.
