Free Flamenco Guitar Lesson 10: Soleares - Extended Phrygian Scale

While listening to Soleares pieces, you will occasionally hear some notes which lie outside of the standard Phrygian scale that we studied in the previous lesson.

These notes you will find in this extended Phrygian scale, which also contains G# and D#.

As you play this scale, or any other sequence of notes, for that matter, remember this tip to maximize your effectiveness in maintaining a consistent tension , but with a relaxed posture, in your left hand. As you move from one pitch to the next, transfer the tension of the finger holding the first pitch to the next finger as it plays the next pitch in the sequence.

In your next lesson, you will learn about the degrees of the Phrygian mode, one of the most important aspects of understanding how Flamenco music is constructed.
