Free Flamenco Guitar Lesson 13: Basic Soleares Falsetta

Before you start this lesson, it would be a good idea to review what you have learned so far. If there are any areas that you feel that are needing some work, revisit those lessons or practice those drills so that you will be ready for this milestone in your musical formation as a Flamenco guitarist. In this lesson, you will play your very first Soleares falsetta.

Falsettas are what Flamenco guitarists call musical phrases. They are based on the underlying scale in the Phrygian mode. Later in this level, should you continue your study, you will create your own Soleares falsettas.

This falsetta is based on the first four degrees of the Phrygian mode.

Let's now take a closer look at the left-hand techniques you can use to play this falsetta. Your instructor will demonstrate two alternative fingerings for the last chord: the standard 1-2, and then the alternate fingering 2-3. In the alternate fingering, 2 and 3 are used as guide fingers (fingers on the same string) by sliding over to the next note.

Very often, a falsetta will end with a remate, which is a concluding subphrase. Remates are one of the first topics that we will learn in the next section of Level 1, which you can access by signing up for a free three-day trial in our "Sign Up" section at the top right corner of this webpage.

We are honored to have had you as a student so far. We hope that you will continue to enjoy making Flamenco music with us.
