The ethereal sound of this holiday classic is familiar to many in the Western world. Originally a translation of a maiden’s plea for divine intervention from Sir Walter Scott’s poem, “The Lady of the Lake,” it has taken on a new life when wedded to the Latin text of the Roman Catholic prayer. The piece has enjoyed great popularity, having been recorded by a huge and diverse group of artists ranging from Marian Anderson to Bing Crosby.
This transcription, for solo classical guitar, is in the key of G major. Through its gentle, meditative tones, the classical guitar conveys the spiritual dimension of the piece without words, opening it up for all to experience through the lenses of their own beliefs.

In general, this is a good “first things first” strategy to use when facing such difficult position changes in this and other pieces.
